GFC/GA CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PUBLIC KICK-OFF Raising The Banner of Love Banquet March 11/2007 Greeks For Christ and the Greek Assembly of Oakland, California, hosted a banquet on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, 1101 Van Ness Avenue at Geary Blvd. in San Francisco. This event officially launched the Raising The Banner of Love Campaign. The Cathedral Hill ballroom provided an elegant setting for the Campaign video, a message from Rev. Robert Creel, presentations by Dr. Peter Vourliotis, Rev. Andy Lay and Rev. Sophie Tounger, music and comments by Rev. George Argyropoulos, and emceeing by Gus Demas. We also heard from architect James M. T. Chao and professor Dr. George S.Babbes. Supporters of our ministries were asked to make a gift and/or a faith promise commitment to the Campaign and the response was outstanding. Our newest music CD, "Pistevo" was released at the banquet and each guest received a gift copy. The Raising the Banner of Love Campaign builds upon the glorious history of the Greek Church in Oakland, California and its outreach ministry, Greeks For Christ International. The Campaign is an ambitious project that will ultimately provide the following resources for ministry:
The Campaign is divided into three phases. Over the next several years, God willing and with the faithful prayers and financial support from our church family and friends of our ministries we can achieve our goals. For more information on the Campaign or to receive a full-color brochure, please contact us. During Phase 1 of the Campaign we will expand the scope of our outreach ministry and enlarge our support base that will enable the church officers to approve and purchase land to build the future home of Greeks For Christ. PHASE ONE: 1) The 15-minute Greek Hour of Hope Broadcast currently airs on a dozen stations in the USA., Greece and Australia. On March 4, 2007, the broadcast added WNVY, AM 1090 station in Pensacola, Florida for airing at 3 pm on Sundays. We will continue to expand our effective broadcasting program into new areas where there are heavy Greek-speaking concentrations. Expansion Plan Broadcast the Greek Hour of Hope in five metropolitan areas where approximately Half the Greeks in the USA live: San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Boston, New York, and Tampa Bay, Florida.
As we expand the radio ministry of GFCI, the numbers of supporting constituents will grow over the next three to five years and the support base will be of sufficient size to sustain the expanded radio ministry. But, until the support base ca be underwritten by the Greek listeners, we are asking members and friends to assist us in underwriting this three year expansion project. The average air-time cost for one weekly 15-minute broadcast is $4,000 per year. We plan to expand the number of weekly broadcasts from our current 12 to 48. When we reach our goals, we anticipate that the air-time costs will total about $190,000 per year. In addition to air-time, we anticipate increased costs for radio production, listener follow-up and printed materials. Therefore, we ask that you prayerfully consider how you can be a part of this important ministry that reaches out to the Greeks For Christ. 2) We estimate we will need 10 or more acres of land in the east San Francisco Bay Area to house the GFCI offices and studios, a Greek Community & Cultural Center, a Worship Center and Housing for workers, visitors and retirees, along with the parking and green space required. For over 75 years, many believers have supported and donated to the work of the Greek Assembly Church and the Greeks For Christ International ministry for the past 35 years. Their help has made it possible for us to effectively share the Gospel and carry forth the Great Commission to the Greeks and to all the people of the world. We have experienced many of Gods blessings among Gods people that has blessed us, encouraged us and now, we have the opportunity to do the same for future generations. The Greek Hour of Hope Radio Ministry was first launched back in 1974 by the sacrificial gift from a lady who had a burden to see Gods Word widely preached. In 2004, another dear sister gave a $30,000 lead gift that launched our Olympic New Testament project and by her generosity, many others were inspired to give. Much earlier, in 1944, another woman of God gave $5,000 for building the present Church Sanctuary in Oakland, California. But, think about the return of those three ladies investments! Its a return that will only be fully revealed in eternity! Raising the Banner of Love is an opportunity to leave a legacy for future generations that will continue to give the truth of Gods Word to those who will follow us. By supporting the Campaign we can leave behind a symbol of our commitment to Christ and His Kingdom. May He be worthy of all our praises and to Him be the Glory forever, Amen.
